This platform is the collective base for the Master of Design Innovation and the MEDes Product Design at the Glasgow School of Art Sustain our Nation project.

You can find out more about the project here

Sustain our Nation (SoN) is a competition for young designers that seeks to encourage innovation to address the issues of Ageing population, Health, Finance, Crime, Energy & Climate change, via the creation of social enterprises through design. The aim is to catalyse solutions that address these national issues at a local level, working with communities to deliver sustainable change.

SoN is keen to encourage designers to work with local stakeholders to identify which of the themes are most relevant to the local community and how these might be addressed in a sustainable way through design led social enterprise.

What we do:
Applying design thinking to everyday problems

What we do is social design, still a budding area. We are not product designers, we are problem solvers. We believe that designing is a powerful tool to find solutions for new and old problems.

Our knowledge and creativity are willing/waiting/available to find solutions for real needs. We are aware of the current technical limitations but it does not stop us trying to find the best approximation to the ideal solutions.
We offer new ideas and new ways of facing problems.

How we do it.
Encouraging communication

We know that the only way of moving forward in design is achieving full understanding of real needs, and it cannot be reached without listening to people.

That is why our strategy is based on getting people involved in the creative process. Gathering and joining different points of view makes the design process more effective.

We do not know everything. That is why we need an approach to everybody’s realities. By creating a dialogue with communities we are able to adapt design to their needs.

Why we do it
Getting global improvements by local development

We believe that change is possible, but new ways of thinking and proceeding have to be applied. Nowadays, design is moving forward, and we want to take part in it. As we are inspired by initiatives taken before, we aim to become a reference in social design. It is time to put design at society’s service.

Who for?
Improving lives
Social improvements concern everybody. Those who have problems and those who care about the path our civilization/society is taking. Because small changes can make a big difference, we aim to involve as many people as we can.

How to get involved
Let us know: info@getgoglasgow.org
In order to make the most of design, everybody has to be integrated in the process.
If you want to share the problems of your community with us, or your company wants to get involved in social design get in touch with us.

As a result three ideas are going to be t… Continue
